Parsons Code Lab is an educational web application designed to help students practice programming using Parsons Problems. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the rights users have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Personal data is not sold or shared with third parties for commercial purposes. Authorized teachers may view data relating to students enrolled in their task sets. System administrators may access personal data when necessary for maintenance, security, or troubleshooting.
We may use anonymized and aggregated data for academic research, educational studies, and the improvement of teaching and learning practices. Any data used for these purposes is processed so that individual users cannot be identified, and no research outputs will contain information that could reasonably be used to recognize a specific person.
Personal data is retained only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including the provision of educational services, maintenance of learning records, system security, troubleshooting, and compliance with legal obligations.
Requests for the deletion of personal data may be submitted at any time through the contact channels provided on the Contact page. Alternatively, students may submit such requests through their teacher, and teachers should contact the system administrator.
Personal data will be deleted or anonymized without undue delay where applicable.
Where a deletion request relates to an active course, certain information may be retained for the duration of the course where necessary to provide the educational service, maintain assessment and course records, protect the rights of students and teachers, or comply with legal obligations. Such data will be deleted or anonymized once it is no longer required for these purposes.
Copies of data may temporarily remain in backup systems and other recovery mechanisms until those copies are overwritten or removed as part of normal system maintenance.
Copies of educational records may be exported by authorized teachers for grading and course administration purposes. Anonymized datasets may also be exported for academic research and the advancement of teaching and learning practices. Exported data shall be retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was obtained and any applicable legal, administrative, or research record-keeping requirements, consistent with the principles of data minimization and storage limitation.

Requests relating to personal data should be submitted to the system administrator. Student users may also submit requests through their teacher. Requests will be handled in accordance with applicable data protection legislation.
Parsons Code Lab uses only cookies that are necessary for authentication and operation of the application. If optional analytics cookies are introduced in the future, users will be informed and, where required, given the opportunity to consent before such cookies are used.
This Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect changes to the application or applicable legislation. The latest version will always be available within the application.
